LASIK FAQs

Have you been considering a LASIK procedure? There are a lot of questions surrounding the procedure that you may want to know before moving forward. At Butler Eye Care in Lebanon, MO, we have performed countless successful LASIK procedures. Following are the answers to several questions our eye doctor frequently receives regarding LASIK eye surgery.

LASIK FAQs

What is LASIK Surgery?

LASIK is a laser procedure to reduce or eliminate the need for contact lenses and glasses. During the procedure, the cornea is reshaped with computer precision to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

How Do I Know If LASIK Is Right for Me?

A comprehensive eye exam from a qualified optometrist is best to determine whether or not LASIK is right for you. General guidelines include being over 18 years old and having healthy eyes with a stable prescription. Pregnant women and those suffering from various medical conditions may not be ideal candidates. We will complete a thorough evaluation of your eyes to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure. If our eye doctor deems you a good candidate for LASIK, we will dilate your eyes to measure your pupils and corneas.

Will I Have Perfect Vision after the Procedure?

There is no guarantee that you will have perfect vision after the procedure. However, most patients report that they can do the activities they love without glasses. LASIK can be a life-changing experience.

Is LASIK Painful?

Many patients do not report any pain through the process. Anesthetic drops are used to numb the eyes before surgery begins. You may feel a slight pressure in the eyes. After the surgery, your eyes may be irritated for a short time. However, many patients are comfortable once they give their eyes a chance to rest.

Are Both Eyes Treated at the Same Time?

Yes. It's more convenient to get both eyes done at the same time. The procedure takes 30 minutes or less on average.

Are the Effects of LASIK Permanent?

Each person's results are individual, but generally, they are permanent. Eye changes may occur as you age, regardless of whether you have the surgery or not.
